Michael’s 40th in the BVI!

A long, long time ago… nearly 40 years ago, Michael was born! To celebrate the old age, we will be heading to the British Virgin Islands!

We will be spending one week aboard chartered yachts, sailing around the British Virgin Islands, home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and legendary sights! There will be something for everyone… from enjoying famous local cocktails right on the beach to diving shipwrecks and exploring the history of the British Virgin Islands.

Dates: April 5-12, 2025

How is this going to work?

The very first day you arrive in the British Virgin Islands, you will meet your boatmates, your skipper, and the other boats that will be sailing with us.  We are expecting 3 boats. Some of you will know each other, some of you will meet new lifelong friends! We will live, eat, and party together while sailing and exploring the BVI!

Everyday we will wake up to a beautiful sunrise at a different location.  The skipper will be preparing the boat for the next location as you eat breakfast or maybe take a quick invigorating swim to get ready for another day in paradise! The most common question is “Do I need to know how to sail?” The answer is no! We have staff on the boat, so you just need to focus on making your next cocktail and perfecting your tan. However, if you want to learn how to sail and drive the yacht, the skipper will be more than eager to teach you.

What do the yachts look like?

The yachts are plenty spacious. All the cabins will have two people to a room. There are full kitchens, bathrooms and dining rooms on the yachts! Check out this page for more information and photos about the yachts.

So where are we going?

For a full week we will island hop around all these islands in the British Virgin Islands! There will be something new to explore everyday!

How do I get there?

There are two airport options to get to the British Virgin Islands:

  • ~ flying into Saint Thomas, which is the area’s largest airport (Code STT), then taking the ferry to the BVI

  • ~ or flying directly to the BVI into Tortola (Code EIS)

Note: If you decide to fly in to Saint Thomas (like most people!), you need to make sure you book a flight that lands before 3:00pm on the 5th in order to make the last ferry that will bring you to the BVI.

Departure Day: we suggest getting a hotel on Saturday night (the 12th) so you are not rushed to run to the airport.

Coming in early/late? Not a problem, there are plenty of hotel options in St Thomas or in the British Virgin Islands.

The funds

Included for $1750 per person is room & board on the boat and the hired skipper.  Flights and provisions are excluded. Provisions (food/booze) will be discussed/selected as we get closer, but you should tentatively budget for $300 per person.

A deposit will be due to secure your spot, with full payment will be due prior to 90 days before the trip. Each guest will be required to obtain travel insurance. The travel insurance is not just to protect you in the event of luggage loss or a medical emergency, but to protect the trip.  If a guest must cancel after payment for an unforeseen reason (work, illness, weather, etc.) the travel insurance will step in to recover unexpected losses without effecting other guests.

Travel Insurance!

Travel insurance is always important when traveling, but even more important on these types of trips. For example, if your bags don’t quite make it with you, travel insurance will give you a lump sum of cash to help cover immediate clothing needs. Travel insurance also helps if you get injured on the trip, or somehow can’t make the trip. For your travel insurance needs, we recommend using Travel Guard. More information about their policies can be found here: Travel Guard.
