Things to do at Norman Island, British Virgin Islands

Willy T Bar, BVI

The Willy T Bar in BVI is one of the most infamous yacht bars in the world. You can only get to the Willy T bar by boat, so it remains one of the most exclusive bars in the world. Once you moor your boat for the day, you can either swim over to the Willy T or take your dingy over.

If you are going there for lunch it is one of the best in the islands! If you are there for the evening, plan to dance the night away and have plenty of rum and painkillers. The steps can often be slippery on the bar, so be careful when going up and down the stairs on the Willy T. This can also be one of the more noisy nights on your sailing vacation, so if plan on hearing music throughout the night if you moor close to the bar. The Willy T in BVI will stay open as long as their are people still on the ship partying.

The Indians, BVI

The Indians, which got its name from sailors who thought they resembled a Native American’s head dress, is a small archipelago of islets located right next to Pelican Island. It is one of the busiest, but most interesting snorkel sights in the British Virgin Islands for your sailing vacation.

Because this site gets busy by noon, it is a good location to get there early in the morning. Pelican Island and the Indians are both unihabited, so there is not much to do besides a quick snorkel (or dive) in this location.

The Caves, BVI

The caves are the location of one of the biggest hidden treasure legends of the British Virgin Islands. The story goes that a fisherman named Henry Creque, bought the island in 1894. During a large storm he took refuge in the caves on Norman Island and as the ship hit the sides of the caves, the area eventually collapsed, taking him and all his treasures.

The rest of his family then moved to Anegada and set up a shop there. It is rumored one day they suddenly left the British Virgin Islands, leading to the belief that the treasure was found. It is believed that the treasure Mr Creque held was from the Spanish galleon “Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.”

When mooring at Norman Island during your sailing vacation you will take your dingy over to the caves where there are lines that you can tie up to. From there you will swim into the caves with your snorkel gear and enjoy the locale fish. The Caves in the BVI will be one sight to remember!
