Top 5 tips for your week-long sailing vacation!

Sailing Vacations can look like a beast when trying to plan! So we put together our top 5 tips when planing your sailing vacation so you can live your best yacht life!

  1. Pick the right boat!

There are 3 common types of boats to rent: power, sailing and catamaran. Each provide you with advantages depending on what yacht life you want to have!

  • Powerboat - If you are looking for a week of spending a lot of time outside on the deck having cocktails and getting to as many locations as possible, a powerboat rental would be your best choice. This provides faster speed and plenty of space to relax onboard.

  • Sailing (Monohull) - Are you a sailing enthusiast that wants to take advantage of the wind in your perfect location? A monohull rental trades out more deck space for a cheaper price usually, but never sacrifices the luxury.

  • Catamaran - The steady, luxurious boat rental that offers the perfect mix of the space of a powerboat and the ability to raise your sails and turn off the engine.

2. Provision your food in advance

No one wants grumpy boaters, so food is one of the most important aspects of the trip. If you rent a boat with a captain, he or she will be able to give you the information on how to order food from a local store.

If you rent a bareboat, do a quick search of grocery stores around the marina that you will be leaving from. Many grocery stores will allow you to place an order to pick up the food the day you leave. If the store is very close to the marina, many will even deliver directly to the boat!

The easiest option is to hire a chef for the week. A chef allows you to worry nothing about preparing food and cooking while on the trip and they will help you order the food you need before you start your sailing vacation.

3. Know the weather!

Depending on where you are taking your sailing vacation, the weather can be quite different. It is important to look at what the average temperature will be as well if the location expects a quick daily shower.

The biggest key points are to check to see if you need to bring a rain jacket, so sweaters to keep warm at night, or if you need to just be in shorts the whole time!

4. Plan to always stay flexible!

No matter how much you plan your sailing vacation, something will always change!  Maybe you get on the trip and find out a music festival is going on and you want to change your itinerary to enjoy it? Or maybe weather will cause a route change. No matter what, something will cause a change during the trip. That's OK! You are spending the week on a beautiful boat rental with great company and there is always so much to do.

      5. Double check your travel plans!

Especially if you are traveling overseas, it is always smart to make sure that everyone’s passports are good for 6 months past the trip date, which is often a requirement. Make sure that everyone has a plan to get from the airport to the marina and that everyone has a copy of the address of where the marina is located. It is also always a smart plan to purchase travel insurance which can help in case your luggage didn’t make it to the location or if you get sick before the trip.
