3 must-have Drinks When Sailing the BVIs

When sailing the British Virgin Islands you can expect to have a lot of beach time and visiting some of the most famous yachtie bars in the world. Whether you are spending the day at Peter Island on Willy Ts or you are swimming ashore to the Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke, you are for sure going to be trying these three drinks. These are a must for living your best yacht life!

The PainKiller!  This is the most famous drink in the British Virgin Islands and you will hear everyone asking for it at the bar. It actually it not hard to make as well:

  • 2 Ounces of Rum

  • 1 Ounce Cream de Coconut

  • 4 Ounces Pineapple

  • 1 Ounce Orange Juice

  • Nutmeg shavings on top

If you are looking for a good drink to travel with to the beach, premake the juice and just add rum!

Rum Punch. Every recipe is going to be different at every bar and everyone will claim to have the best. Always a refreshing and cold drink, you can’t go wrong with this choice:

  • 2 Ounces of Rum

  • 2 Ounces of Pineapple

  • 1 Ounces of Orange Juice

  • 1 Ounces of Sour Mix


The key to the perfect rum punch is to experiment to see what mixes you like! Host a competition among your boat mates to see who can make the best batch!

Caribbean Beer. This is usually the most difficult drink to make in the British Virgin Islands. It involves handing a few dollars to the bartender!

Even though this is not a cocktail, Caribbean beer is famous for going down easy on a hot sunny day.  Usually light and smooth lagers, the local beers are brewed in and designed for the tropical climate. The two most famous brands are Carib and Red Stripe. Make sure to try them both!
